SERDANG, August 4 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has showcased 14 innovative products at the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2022 held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS).
The innovative products exhibited fall into three categories, namely livestock, crops and food technology.
UPM Vice-Chancellor, YH. Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd. Roslan Sulaiman, said the theme for MAHA this time, “Food Security for the Future”, is closely linked to UPM.
“The organisation this time will become a benchmark of UPM’s readiness to take on great responsibilities in helping the country deal with the food security issue.
“UPM will continue to be committed to exploring discoveries to address the challenges of agricultural productivity and innovation, the cost of agricultural inputs, climate change and the threat of natural disasters, disease attacks and so on in line with the National Agrofood Policy (DAN 2.0).
UPM focussed on innovative research products that used smart farming methods to ensure the success of the agrofood transformation.
A total of four innovation projects exhibited in the livestock cluster were the fish food project, Fs Feed, TropiCarp Aquafeeds, Putra Red Talapia and Porcine Rapid Amplification Kit.
As for the plant category, six innovations and technologies from UPM were on display, namely the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) Single Seedling Nursery Tray, SoilProp: Soil Properties Mapping System, Milagro Matado, PadiU Putra, Harvast - Photosynthesis Enhancer and BioPellens: All-Purpose Organic Fertiliser Solution for your modern agriculture.
Meanwhile, for the food technology category, as many as four product and technology innovations were showcased, namely Orygold - Production of GBR (Germinated Brown Rice) as Neutraceutical and Functional Food, Appetit Ice Cream, Super Cosmos for Multipurpose Ingredients and Kopi Rajawali: Caffeine-Free and Antioxidant-Rich Date Seed Coffee. The biennial exhibition, last held in 2018, is now taking place for 11 days at MAEPS until August 14.
