SERDANG, 30 April – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through its Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (FBSB), has been recognised as a key national training provider under the MyMahir BioTechies: The Biopharmaceutical Series initiative, reinforcing its role in strengthening Malaysia’s biopharmaceutical and biomanufacturing ecosystem.
The recognition was announced during the programme’s official opening ceremony in Putrajaya, officiated by Deputy Secretary General (Planning and Science Enculturation), Dato’ Ruziah Shafei of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
During the event, the Bioprocessing and Biomanufacturing Research Complex (BBRC), FBSB UPM, received a Certificate of Appointment as an Ecosystem Partner (Series B), positioning the facility as a key hub for industry-relevant training in bioprocessing and biomanufacturing.
Dean of FBSB, Prof. Ts. Dr. Rosfarizan Mohamad, said the recognition reflects the faculty’s long-standing commitment to strengthening expertise, infrastructure and industry collaboration in the field.
“This recognition reflects our continuous efforts in enhancing facilities and expertise to support both academic and industry needs in biomanufacturing,” she said.
BBRC was selected based on its strong track record as a BioNexus Partner facility equipped with advanced infrastructure, including bioreactor systems, downstream processing capabilities and good manufacturing practice (GMP)-compliant environments.

The complex also serves as a national reference centre for industrial biotechnology, fermentation technology and biomanufacturing scale-up.
Through the MyMahir BioTechies initiative, BBRC will deliver hands-on, industry-driven training modules covering bioprocess development and optimisation, bioreactor operation and scale-up, downstream processing, as well as quality management systems and regulatory compliance.
Prof. Ts. Dr. Rosfarizan said the initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industrial application while ensuring graduates and professionals are equipped with competencies aligned with global biopharmaceutical standards.
“It is important that training programmes remain aligned with industry requirements to ensure graduates are well-prepared for current biopharmaceutical practices,” she said.
The initiative also involves strategic collaboration with Bioeconomy Corporation as the solution provider, alongside industry partners Biocon Sdn. Bhd. and Infokinetics Sdn. Bhd., reflecting close cooperation between government, academia and industry.
