PONTIAN, March 26- Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) will continue to implement and strengthen the Education and Agriculture Programme so that the sharing of expertise available at UPM can be delivered to the community.
UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd. Roslan Sulaiman, said the programme was conducted in Kampung Sungai Bunyi, Pontian, Johor for three days, starting from March 24 to March 26, 2022, and would not end there.
“We will implement it continuously and travel throughout the country. We want to share with the community, from the knowledge tower to the local community, about our expertise. That is our goal, which is to share knowledge.”
“Today, we share agricultural expertise, and we also have other expertise. We need to increase awareness of agriculture starting from a low level because people always think that agriculture is for the less fortunate, but in fact, agriculture is wealth,” he said.
He explained that apart from sharing agricultural expertise, UPM also had groups that travelled to schools to inform students about the programmes offered at UPM, enabling them to continue their studies after finishing school.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities cum Member of Parliament for Tanjung Piai, Dato' Sri Dr. Wee Jeck Seng, who officiated the programme's closing, said the programme was a knowledge sharing session that was conveyed to the farming community.
“The initiative was taken by the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) Area 6, Kampung Sungai Bunyi, together with the University Community Transformation Center (UCTC), UPM, in organising this programme, was very much appreciated because it implemented knowledge transfer between UPM and the local community.
"I hope the goal to improve the socio-economy of the locals will be achieved, especially involving the aspects of agricultural skills, continuous learning, and generation of creative and innovative thinking," he explained.
In the meantime, throughout the programme, there was much knowledge sharing from UPM experts who went down to the field to meet with the community to share their expertise and give suggestions to solve the farmers’ agricultural problems.
